Should I Upgrade to Windows 10 From 7?

You mean you haven’t yet?Should I upgrade to windows 10 from 7

Should I upgrade to Windows 10 from 7, or 8.1? Well I can honestly say that I think you would be quite pleased with it if you did, and here in this article I will go over some of those reason in why I think that you  would be happy in doing so.

Microsoft didn’t do too well when they came out with Windows 8 so as you know they came up with the upgrade to Windows 8.1, which was a big improvement. But even 8.1 was still lacking some of the best features that made Windows 7 such an awesome Operating System.

What Microsoft had in mind was coming up with an operating system that was compatible with all computing device like your tablets, iPads, iPhones, and of course the desktop computer where they all were using the App features.

And that is what brought about Windows 10, an operating system that combines the best of both worlds, of the Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 operating systems, and has the ability to operate on all devices.

So what you have is an operating system that will operate on any of your devices, allowing them to sync together and share any or all of your apps. This is a great thing, because now you can purchase an app for your tablet, and then be able to use it on your iPhone or iPad, including your desktop.

So with all that being said lets go over some of the things that I think will help you to decide whether or not Windows 10 is something you’re ready to upgrade to.

What is The Roll back feature?

I going to start with this one because I think it is one of the best reasons to upgrade. With this feature if you’re not happy with Windows 10, and you want to go back to your current operating system that you were running, Windows has provide you with a  program to get you back to where you were.

How is this done, Should i upgrade to Windows 10 from 7well when Windows loads the new update it is going to make a file that contains your current system, including all of your apps, software and data.

Now any time you make changes to your system like this, you should always backup any and all important files that you don’t want to lose. Like your photo’s, document files that contain last year tax information, and so on.

Even if it says it won’t delete any files, you should still backup your data! Now if you need a refresher on making backups, you can check out my latest post on Backing up your files.

No more Microsoft account  needed:

For those that don’t want to setup a Microsoft account like the one you had to setup with windows 8, 8.1, just to be able to use its features, then by all means you don’t have to with Windows 10, you can choose to create a standard account using whatever email address you want.

And you will be happy to know that you can use your Windows 7, 8, 8.1 licenses to activate the Windows 10 product.Should i upgrade to Windows 10 from 7 So for instants,  if you wanted you could download the new version, activate it with your previous Windows license, and then roll back to your previous version of Windows and wait until a later date where by all rights they should have the majority of bugs fixed, and then reinstall 10, without having to purchase the new version.

Because after July 2016 the free upgrade won’t be available. This way later down the road you do decide to upgrade your all set for it.

 Have you heard of Cortana?

Sure you have, with Cortana you will be able to do the things that your smart phones are capable of with Google Now and the Apple’s Siri.Should i upgrade to Windows 10 from 7 All you have to do to activate Cortana is type in any question in the search bar that is located on the left side of the task-bar, and she will look search for it in your computer and the internet for answers.

But the best part is, you can set Cortana up to recognize your own voice, once you set her up, just say Hey Cortana, and ask away. As your speaking she will be typing it in the search bar so you can make sure she heard you right. She is also great at reminding you of appointments, dictating notes for you, getting map directions to where ever, and telling you the weather, and so much more.

New Universal apps:

With the newly introduced Universal apps, where you can use the apps on your entire Window devices, such as your PC, phone, tablet, Surface, and even on your Xbox. And for instants, if you had a Surface 3 and you remove the keyboard, Windows will automatically switch over to the touch version of the system and vice versa. This way you can operate any apps that require touch or keyboard to function anywhere you have Windows 10.

Windows will scan your system to make sure it’s compatible.

Before you upgrade, Windows will scan your system to make sure your hardware and software will support the upgrade, and if not it will notify you of the items that are not compatible.Should i upgrade to Windows 10 from 7

If there are, all you have to do is go online to the manufacture site and see if they have updated material that you can download to support Windows 10. You will find that most the popular hardware and software will have already upgraded to handle the new version of Windows.

Thou you might run into having to upgrade the drivers for some of the older peripherals such as scanners, printers, and cameras, but that’s not difficult to do, just visit the manufactures website and download the new driver’s.

The major bugs are Fixed, or are they?

By now most of the major bugs have been worked out of Windows 10, they have just completed their largest update which started in early November fixing most of the bugs, (and showing some new ones lol). 🙂Should i upgrade to Windows 10 from 7

In this update it changes your default browser to Edge, and reset the need for a password upon waking up from sleep, or hibernate mode, both of which can be reset to your own preference. Some users have said they lost some apps that were purchased from a third party.

As with anything else there are always some bugs that are buried so deep that it can take up to a year or longer to find their way to the surface, but Windows is always looking and waiting for them.  But not to worry because if you’re updating now, all of that has been worked out, giving you a clean install.

If you enjoy gaming, It just got Better:

New improvements in Windows to help in your gaming experience, like the ability to stream your games from your Xbox One right to your PC or laptop when the TV isn’t available, due to someone else watching it (what could be on TV that’s better than gaming?). 🙂

A new game- play recording utility called the Game DVR, which will let you make recordings of your games, and the latest version of DirectX12 which will improve the performance of the graphics card and CPU’s.

Virtual Desktop, well it’s about Time:

Windows has finally joined the ranks in providing multiple desktop work spaces, known as Virtual Desktop. For those that have experienced virtual desktops on other desktop operating system (like Linux, OS X, Mac) will enjoy this feature, and even for those that are used to working on several programs at once will enjoy the benefits of this feature.

So should you upgrade to Windows 10?

Now of course this is just a short list of a few of the new things added in the new operating system, and I have provided a short video that goes over some other features that you will find.

So with the ability to roll back to your original settings, should you decide that it’s not for you, all that you will be losing is the time it takes to download and install it. So why not give it a try, I really think you will like it, and just recently Microsoft has stated that all new CPU’s manufactured will be built to support only Windows 10.

It seems that they are intent on making this the one and only Operating system that they will continue to support in the far future. So maybe it’s about time to join the ranks. They have also stated that they will continue the support of Windows 7, but they are dropping Windows 8 (which no one uses any way do they?), and will just have to wait and see what fate is in store for Windows 8.1.

Well there you have it, now sit back and take a break while watching this 5 minute video from PhoneDog on Windows 10 features.

  1. Cees

Thanks for the great information about.
I was wondering about upgrading from 7 to 8 before but heard so many problems and issues and since I need it also for my work, I just sticked to windows 7.
I never knew that I could always go back to the system i was using. So I think I give windows 10 a try and will let you know later if it was any good.

I’m glad to hear that you are willing to give Windows 10 a try Cees. I really think you will be happy with all the new features that it has to offer, and with it being similar with Window 7 you shouldn’t have any problems navigating around.

As I stated in the article you can always go back to your original Operating system, just set it up to do it at the end of your day and come morning you will be back where to your original state.

      I’m glad you stopped by.

Hi Kim. Great points about Windows 10. The first time I saw the icon appear on my laptop I thought it was something like a virus or hardware… so I didn’t click on it.

But then later I heard my brother-in-law said that he upgraded his Windowds 7 to 10. That’s how I’ve learned that what I saw was not a threat but Windows 10.

But now I don’t have that icon anymore and I’m looking for to upgrade my Windows 7. Do you know where I can go for that?

    1. Kim (Post author)

Hi Guy,I’m glad to hear that your ready to upgrade to windows 10, I really think you will enjoy it.

Here is the link (Windows 10 )that will take you to the download page from Microsoft, just click on the upgrade button and Microsoft will take care of everything for you. Keep in mind that this can take a few hours to accomplish. The first half windows will allow you to continue working on your PC, after that it will be restarting a few times, and it will tell you to save your work and discontinue working on your PC.

You will also be given the chance to do a Clean install or an upgrade. If you do a clean install, this will not save any of your programs, software, data, and so forth. So make sure you have backups, now the upgrade will keep all of your files and data intact, it just upgrades your operating system.

I hope this has helped you, and if you have any further question please let me know.

Thank you for the useful info on Windows 10! I was one of the people putting off the download, but my computer decided it would do the upgrade on its own one day.. . Now that I’ve visited your site, I know how to use Cortana. I knw that will be a big time saver!

I’m glad you took some time to visit my post, I really think you are going to enjoy Windows 10, and hey, if not, don’t worry you will be always able to roll back to your previous Windows operating system.

You know, Windows 10 will be around for ever, and right now there are of 300 million users using it, and that figure will just continue to grow. So if you have the time, now would be the time to go for the Free upgrade before it ends at the end of this month. go ahead and scheduled it to do the upgrade when you are sleeping, and not using your computer.

That way it will be all ready for you in the morning when you get up, and there will be just a couple of thing to do to complete the upgrade that should only take a couple of minutes.

Let me know if you run into any problems while doing this, I would love to help you. And if you have any other problems, or question please let me know, and I’ll get right on it for you.
